The reactive mind vs the thoughtful mind...

a thought came to me as i was posting on another topic.

my reactionary mind, responding to watchtower's cruel and hostile treatment of genuine truthseekers who can no longer reconcile with watchtower's narrative was, " may the collapse begin".. but then my thoughts turned to how that would affect my parents and siblings who are blissfully oblivious with their collective heads in the sand.

all their hopes and future joy has been postponed for decades awaiting paradise while fighting off the black dog that is depression.

Hi Stan,

I agree there will be many who dont really believe strongly that the watchtower is God's channel. Others who, like you said are trapped and looking for an escape. These ones will fare better when the watchtower is fully exposed and begins to have a noticeable decline.

The folk I'm more concerned about are the ones like my family.... simple folk who's minds are totally captive to the organization, for them it has to be truth.... their mental stability is teetering on a knifes edge while they wait for a promised paradise so they can finally live the "real" life.....they are banking their whole lives on a cruel promise of absolution that will never come.

For example how does one help a man-child who lacks the capacity to grasp or comprehend an alternative reality?

They are deep in their delusion, and that delusion has been their comfort in times of emotional distress.

They are about to be blind-sided and I feel the need to gently prepare them for impact. " brace yourselves, this is going to hurt"

What can a therapist really do?

hi all, i've not read the forums for awhile as i've been trying to move on with my life but i'm back and posting for the first time feeling like i cant get a grip.

so i'm wondering for those of you that have seen a therapist and say that it truly helps, what can be accomplished?

i'm just really skeptical, but starting to feel desperate.

Hi Thetruthhurts,

Letting go of emotions is not the way to properly grieve.

You must give yourself permission to grieve at your own pace.

It takes time to go through the stages of the grieving process to be able to heal.

Your feelings are real, they matter and are valid.

This is temporary and you will get through it. Research, talk through it when you want to with us and find a therapist that works for you.

Talk to your GP.

You will find balance.

When it becomes untenable and they have to face reality, what then?

It brings to mind the saying: " be careful what you wish for".

My family aren't the only ones who will find it difficult to cope and survive without an illusion to prop up their mental stability.

So there is an unease going on in my mind; how to bring comfort to those who need that crutch, the prosthetic reality for the mind that religious belief supplies? I cannot fake it so I won't offer them a hope I don't believe in.

Therefore, when the inevitable occurs, my reactive mind will rejoice at the Watchtower's demise while my thoughtful mind will be running around in a state of panic, picking up the broken pieces of my family's mental health.....if I can't find a remedy or formulate a response plan to suit their individual needs.

I feel like I need to start preparing them now....but how? I feel inadequate to the task.

I love these people who are mental captives to the Jehovah's witnesses organisation and it frustrates me to know they will reject and even resent me for saying anything negative about Watchtower.

I would be surprised if an elder read this in its entirety unless they held you in high regard, and even then most people don't like to read something that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Some people don't even like to read beyond a quick meme, because that is the sum total of their attention span.

Nonetheless, thanks for sharing this as it contributes greatly to the landslide of information and testimony to the negative impacts of watchtower interpretation and dictatorship.

May the collapse begin.

My first question would be: If the society has misinterpreted the meaning of the locusts in Joel, how can we be confident that our current understanding of satans burning arrows in Ephesians is in any way correct?

Secondly, can we be provided with documented proof of these lies, with references to the source and be shown where it is that the apostates have lied?

And thirdly, would it not strengthen our faith if we can prove beyond doubt that the appostates distort facts and tell lies?

Surely truth will prevail, because it can be backed by evidence when scrutinized, whereas deception will fail when examined.

What can a therapist really do?

Hi Thetruthhurts,

welcome to the forum.

To answer your question, think about what a physiotherapist does; they "just" tell you coping techniques, like exercises, strapping and pain management tailored to your particular injury and circumstance.

The psychiatrist likewise will tailor a program of mental health care coping techniques and trauma management to suit your particular situation.

Neither therapist can change what happened to you or your personal life circumstance, but what they can do is show you how to cope, how to avoid further trauma or injury, recommend what to change in you life to assist your recovery and prescribe medication where necessary.

It is then up to you to make the hard decision whether or not you can follow their recommendations.

And what price or value do you put on your mental health?

It's really good you have come here to talk about this with people that understand a lot of what You're going through. Thats a great start to the healing process.

Keep talking, keep asking questions and without giving away your identity can you give us more detail concerning what it is that is making you feel you can't get a grip?

using only scriptural proof, show me why you believe that the wtbts/ccojw is god's choice and i'll tell you if i agree with your scriptural reasoning.".

wait for the silence and the rabbit in the headlights moment.. i searched on the wt cd rom for references of "channel of communication.".

Looking at 14th August 2015 Australian royal commission into organisational responses to child sexual abuse Day155 transcript page 15937 lines 37 /38 , Geoffrey Jackson is seen to be using deception and obfuscation to give a non-answer, as is his M.O. throughout the hearing, when he uses the crafty and cunning, smooth talk and weasel words of watchtower by saying, "That I think would seem to be quite presumptuous to say that we are the only spokesperson that God is using".

Notice his use of "I think" and "seem".... and the rest of his testimony is full of those kinds of guarded non-committal wordings, typical of watchtower that can later be weaseled out of.

Plausible deniability.

But throughout the literature of watchtower the doctrine fluctuates from ambiguity, to clearly stated and defined, and back to vague uninspired imperfect men "trying" to fulfil that role.

So a jw should never commit to anything but instead refer back to what the "current teaching" is.
